*Personality:
Generally appears quiet and calm, with definite book-ish leanings, Caolan is known for his interest in anything and everything and also for attempting to record it in his ever-present notebook. He has been described as the type of individual who wants to know how the universe works... and will take it apart to try to find out. He can focus so obsessively on an interest that it leads to the exclusion of other things and even other people, something not everyone in his family thinks is wholly healthy. He can, at times, appear to forget that people are people and not lab rats and there are very few limitations on what he will do as part of an experiment. Despite initial appearances, he does have a temper, he just has a longer fuse than some members of his family, but when it does go off his reaction is usually explosive.
*Occupation:
Cal'Lanth Blackthorn's R&D specialist
*Skills and Abilities:

Shapeshifting: Unlike his twin sister, Caolan is a pure Silver dragon like his maternal grandmother, rather than a tarnished Silver. His Badb Catha bloodline also gives him the ability to shift into raven form, which whilst he was younger was more comfortable for him than the dragon form.
Draconic Abilities/Magic: As a Silver he is able to control ice and lightning. This is combined with the Windsinger ability as an air mage to give him a gift for Storm Raising. Like all Kin he possesses the skill of transmutation, or molecular alteration. This magic can be used for healing, however to use it in such a manner causes the dragon to tire quickly and, if used too much, can completely exhaust it.
Academic Interests: Caolan has a keen interest in the world around him. He is skilled at alchemy, engineering, botany, zoology and physics. He has been well educated in a variety of other subjects too including astronomy, history, geography, foreign languages, music and politics, although the last is something he has little natural interest in and is more a necessity given his lineage.
Languages Spoken: Black Kin'Oth, Silver Kin'Oth, Eldredae, Eheiling Narhn, Tauremornan, Aarataurean, Common
*Weapons Used:
Caolan has been educated in the use of a variety of weapons since the age of three, including daggers, short sword and bow. His interest in engineering has also led him to explore siege weaponry and explosives.

*History:
The son of Brandubh and Mira Badb Catha and the twin brother of Muirne, Caolan spends most of his time on Aerdon. When he was twenty he paid a visit to the Aarataure in order to discover more about that side of his heritage. In doing so, he inadvertently became involved in the disappearance of the Summer Lady and the retrieval of the talisman necessary to free her from her confinement. Afterwards, he was invited to attend the Academy in the Aarataure. He did so for the next four years, commuting back and forth between the Aarataure and the Diirlathe, finally completing a programme of study that included the theory of elemental magic, the magical uses of herbs and crystals, alchemy, astronomy and astrology, the history of magic and meditation, alongside the practical applications of air magics, illusions and astral projection. He graduated with the rank of Journeyman Mage.

At the age of twenty-nine, after one laboratory explosion too many, he moved his lab out of his bedroom at the chateau and into his maternal grandfather's old forge at Blackthorn Keep, which is where he can now most usually be found. He was Broken at the age of thirty five (Crucible of the Storm) when he was discovered to be a latent Storm Rider.

Misc Information:
  • As a Broken Storm Rider, Caolan's soul appears as an endless pillar of light and fire. It is silver and ice blue in colour.
  • As a Broken StormRider, it is impossible to drain his life force.
  • When 'triggered' into a 'Storm Ride' his eyes will fully haze/frost over, but still retain the phosphorescent glow in the irises. They appear an icy shade of very pale green.
  • When 'triggered' he can meld lightning and ice together into a much stronger force than using them independently.
  • Caolan’s companion is a female stairiss called Wadjet whom he was given during a visit to Draelond on Arlsyn by Chant Kiandra. Wadjet looks like a winged King Cobra with pale-blue scales. She was named after the patron goddess of Lower Egypt from Terran mythology. She is an intelligent creature and can communicate telepathically.
  • In 'Memory Trail', Caolan is given a glowing orb by Cayde Nyghthawk, the Master of the MageHall, similar to those used to illuminate the MageHall library. This is about the size of a tennis ball and appears to be made of glass. Like the ones at the MageHall, it has a very definite personality of its own, being prone to bouncing about, giggling and generally creating havoc. He calls this Khepri after another ancient Egyptian deity, an aspect of the sun god which took the form of a scarab beetle who rolled up the sun in the mornings.
  • In 'Memory Trail', Caolan also acquires a book from the MageHall library. This is in code which, once broken, will turn out to be written in a combination of Eldredae, Eld Silvanii, and very antiquated Thaydahl. Alongside the text are da Vinci-like drawings of Kin in it, in all possible forms (think The Vitruvian Man). This text was written by one of the Lost known as the Surgeon. It is part of a larger collection of books relating to the creation of the Storm Riders.
