*History: The son of Aengus Kalder and his wife, Morgause, Medraut Kalder was born and raised on the Kalder estates in the Rualdnahm. When he was eighteen years old, his father arranged his marriage to Orinda Glaeske, the recently widowed sister of Lord Glaeske, as a means of cementing an alliance between the two families, despite a significant disparity in age between his son and the much older bride. The union resulted in only one surviving child, a daughter called Esyllt; Orinda suffered a significant number of miscarriages and stillbirths. Ten years later, shortly after Aengus died and Medraut became Lord, Orinda was found at the bottom of a flight of stairs, having apparently fallen and broken her neck.
Medraut quickly remarried, this time to Aimal ?, a young teenage bride. Aimal was not an entirely willing bride as she was in love with Duncan Campbell, a man-at-arms on her father's estate. A few months after the wedding, Medraut came upon them both in bed together. Medraut claimed that Duncan attacked him and he was forced to defend himself. Aimal, attempting to separate the two combatants, was struck by her lover's sword. In his moment of shock, he was in turn struck down by Medraut. In the absence of any other witnesses to the contrary, and since it is undeniable fact that Duncan Campbell had no reason to be at Kalder Castle let alone in the Lady's bedchamber, Medraut's story has been accepted, but the loss of two wives is viewed with wariness and even suspicion in some quarters.
Caderyn Glaeske, a long-time friend, proposed Medraut take his sister Lasairina for his third wife. Medraut accepted this plan and the two have been quietly and quickly wed. Shortly after, Lasairina informed him she was pregnant and in due course was delivered of a son, Melehan and, a few years later, a daughter, Andraste.
