*History: Cahan is the youngest son of Gethin Romello and Nuline Vairesse, and has been brought up exclusively within the bounds of the Aarataure. He has been very successful with the ladies at court, especially the older, more experienced ladies; amongst the more significant of his previous lovers are Cálale Whitehawk, who was his first lover, and Illisse Nimtolien, with whom he had a discreet but long-term liaison for some time before they broke up by mutual agreement. They remain good friends. He met Anarra K'Tral through his friendship with Oran Aicasse who had become the lover of Kee'Aeryn K'Tral, Anarra's niece. Cahan and Anarra became lovers, forged a Nueth'Aer bond, had two children and planned to marry. Then Anarra and the children were recalled to CathEska and contact with them was lost, even the bonds Cahan shared with them being severed.
When the Ingralean exchange group came to Ostohelyanwe, Cahan found himself drawn to Aleiss Soulfire, but, still bearing emotional scars from his previous losses, he tried to hold her at a distance and was less than happy to be informed she has had a vision of what might be - and what might not be - depending upon the choices they made. Yet, despite his reluctance, he could not entirely deny his attraction to her and they eventually became lovers (Healing Waters). They have recently discovered that they are expecting their first child together. This led to their wedding, arranged by the djinn at the Phoenix in Teklan. They bonded on their wedding night (The Disappearing Isle).

- Cahan’s soul is azure blue in colour and in its ground state will often appear to be a mist in form. At the heart of this burns a flame that is the core of the individual’s soul.
- Like all Aarataureans, Cahan’s native spoken dialect is a musical tongue, not dissimilar in sound to Terran Irish, and this is reflected in his accent when speaking Common or other languages.
