*Skills and Abilities: Alexei gained the ability to shape-shift during the story Hybrid following the use of Storme's blood to stabilise his own genetic degeneration. His secondary form is that of a large cat similar to the Tigions of Thitsin. In this form, his fur is a blue-grey shade similar to that of a Terran Maltese cat with black tiger-like stripes. His eyes remain blue in both forms. In addition, his sight, smell and other senses were heightened and made sharper and his reflexes are significantly faster than in the past.

*History: Known to the inhabitants of Albion Camp on Avalon Four as the Phoenix, Alexei Karsparov was the revolutionary leader who they believed would “lead them out of the ashes of their current world to a new and better life”. Following the destruction of the Omega Society base by Rogue Delaney and associates (The Omega Conspiracy), they believed that time had come and the people of Avalon Four rose up in revolt against the Society. To begin with, the revolt was successful, but then the tide began to turn, the reinforcements that could be drawn upon from other Avalons began to take effect, and the revolutionaries found themselves forced into retreat. Many died, others were forced to flee. Amongst these was Alexei himself who left only when it was clear that the uprising had completedly failed.
Seeking refuge on other worlds unassociated with the Omega Society, he found himself in 'Flames' on JuxtaPunk (The Lost Ones). There he met Storme, who hired him to manage the club on the strength of his experience running the nightclub 'Ultraviolet' on Avalon Four. The two eventually became lovers and she invited him to become her partner in the business.
The reappearance of an old friend, Jaime Rivers, disrupted the happy set-up though when she brought with her news about the genetic manipulation involved in Alexei's creation (Hybrid). Fears, soon discovered to be justified, that this manipulation was imperfect and subject to degeneration led to Alexei, Storme and Jaime travelling to the Phoenix Space Station with Jayde Walker in search of the skills of the geneticist, Tahira Nyah. The degeneration was only halted following further genetic manipulation and the replacement of the damaged parts of Alexei's genetic code with segments from Storme's. This has resulted in making the feline traits more prominent in Alexei than they were previously.
Misc Information:
- Alexei is the result of an attempt to hybridise human and feline DNA. The four living species of Panthera genus (Panthera leo (Lion), Panthera onca (Jaguar), Panthera pardus (Leopard), Panthera tigris (Tiger)) may produce a number of hybrid crosses. This can include quite complex hybrids such as the Lijagulep where the fertile female hybrid of a leopard and a jaguar is mated to a male lion. The Omega Society's aim was first to see whether all four Panthera species could be cross-bred, and second to see whether this cross-breed could then be hybridised with human DNA. In Alexei, these feline traits were recessive until the events of Hybrid when they became more dominant.
