Name: Alcyone [pronounced al-SIE-o-nee] Camos
Meaning of Name: Latinized form of Greek Αλκυονη (Alkyone), derived from the word αλκυων (alkyon) or αλκυων (halkyon) meaning “kingfisher”. In Greek myth this name belonged to a daughter of Aeolus and the wife of Ceyx. After her husband was killed in a shipwreck she threw herself into the water, but the gods saved her and turned them both into kingfishers. This is also the name of the brightest of the Pleiades, the seven stars in the constellation Taurus.

Clothing: When not in uniform, Alcyone is most likely to be found in clothes that are comfortable and practical, yet also elegant. She has a quiet sense of style, favouring garments that are attractive, but not bold or brash.

Personality: Reserved, cool, and composed, at least on the surface. Alcyone is a private person and not one to reveal her innermost thoughts and feelings to just anyone. However, beneath the composed veneer of an aristocratic Silver lurks the temper of a Black if provoked.

Skills and Abilities: In addition to her natural ability to form blades and spikes from her own scale in two-legger form, Alcyone Camos carries a longsword. As a Silver, she is able to use lightning or ice as a breath weapons. However, she is also gifted by her goddess and god with the Blacks’ equivalent of the Flame. This gift manifests itself in two ways, either lightning or ice, depending on her intentions and is cast from the hand.

Brief History: Amongst the few Silvers that left the southern forests to fight in the war for the Keep, known later as Laer Drae Sar’da... The Season of Death... but not to be confused with the actual season of drought on Aerdon, Alcyone is one of the Captains of the Silver Guard, an elite faction of Silver dragons in Callan’s army that answer to Yarwin as their General and Callan as their Emperor.
Brought up in one of the noble Houses of the Silver Nation, Alcyone believed herself and her two brothers to be pure Silver, the only clutch of Evelia and Lanval Camos. In truth they are half-Silver and half-Black, her mother having given her heart to Atas Saad’ra, a Black Captain. But at that time Nargus still sat upon the throne of the Black Dragon Emperor, and an affair between a Black Guard and a Noble Silver would have meant death for them both had it become known. So Eve married Lanval, the Silver her family had chosen for her, concealing from him the knowledge that the clutch she hatched was not his, but Atas’. Four dragons hatched, one too Black to be concealed, a female given to Atas to bring up as his own daughter. The other three remained with their mother, heir to a male that was not their father...
A plot by Sorshia Crylos to destabilise the Imperium set in chain a series of events that led to House Camos being massacred by Gideon Crylos, only Alcyone surviving by virtue of her absence. In the aftermath of that tragedy the truth was revealed to her. At first this was known only to a few, but is now common knowledge.
Other Information:
- Alcyone’s favourite colours are silver, ice blue and an icy shade of lavender.
- Her soul is reminiscent of the colours of a glacier when the sun shines on it: silver and icy blue.
- Her scent is subtle and delicate, reminiscent of flowers such as honeysuckle and jasmine on a summer’s evening.
- She hoards windchimes.
- She loves music, but prefers to be able to actually hear the words and melody. This is one reason why she finds Trevis Shaka’s tendency to play very loud heavy metal so annoying. However, good music is something she usually finds soothing and an escape from her troubles.
- She has a lyrical mezzo-soprano singing voice and is a good, albeit amateur, flautist.
- Her heart and organs are in a reverse position from Humans and other humanoids, all Aerdon Dragons having a heart located on the RIGHT side of their body. All single organs are also located on the reverse side.
